My Telephone Box My telephone box is a K6 Mk2. It is a Carran Company kiosk which we think served its working life in Birmingham judging from the locations on the calling cards that fell out of it. Inside, it has a proper BT telephone which was found at the side of a railway line on the blackboard and an international dialling codes notice. All 4 "Telephone" signs are originals which is the only thing that has stopped me from stripping it right back to the metal. It also has the light fitting inside although the light and the phone don't work. |

2005/06 Restoration In early 2005 I decided to completely restore the box as it was looking a bit sorry for itself, see first pic. This wasn't going to be just a new coat of paint, I was going to strip as much of the old paint off as I could and also sort an interior out. Progress was slow for varoius reasons and I put the project on hold until summer 2006. When I came to start again in May 06, the box looked worse than ever, see second pic. With a lot of effort from both myself and my Dad, I hope you'll agree from the other pictures it was a worthwhile project. I never imagined it would come out as well as it did. Also note, it's gained a small friend in the shape of my GR lamp letter box which was an eBay bargain. New parts for the kiosk came from Unicorn Kiosks and Remember When UK. |
The new arrival Also in the summer of 2006, we gained another addition to the garden furniture display. My Dad built a full sized metropolitan police box. You can read and see the full story of the build here |
