The National Telephone
Kiosk Collection

The National Telephone Kiosk Collection is kept at Avoncroft Museum Of Buildings, nr Bromsgrove. It is by far the most complete collection of kiosks in the country and is constantly growing and in my opinion well worth a visit.

As you enter the collection, these four K6's greet you, the one at the front of the right picture has an aluminium door.

Also in the opening is this K1 mk 235.

This one completes the opening, a kiosk from loacl company Brintons who had this in their yard for employees to use for their own use.

If you head through the arch beside the K1 Mk 235, you find this K6 Mk 1.

Or you can head left into another square which holds the K1 mk236, K2, K3, K4 and reproduction of a K5 which was made specially for the collection.

Head north out of this section to come to the main part of the collection, starting with a grey K6 on the right. Left brings you immediately to the K8 and past that is the K7.

Left of the K7 is the KX100 mk1 in British Telecom yellow livery which changed to what we know now in the early 90s. Right of them is a collection of a Booth 7A (Oakham) and 2 Police Posts. The left one I think is more of a general emergency post where as the right one is a City of London Police Post.

In the far right hand corner of this section are the Police Boxes. The right one being a Glasgow box and the left one, a garden shed style box I believe came from Coventry.

the only other unit in this section I haven't mentioned is this Mercury unit that sits behind the K7 & K8. I'm not convinced this should be in the collection really.

The last section is at the back of the museum, the roadside emergency boxes section. It holds an RAC box, 2 AA Boxes and a host of post units from both AA & RAC. There was another RAC box lying down when I was there waiting to be added to the collection.
